The story of Demeter, her daughter Persephone and Demeter's brother Hades.

One day when Persephone was a little girl, she was in the meadow with friends.  The ground opened up with her uncle Hades appearing in a horse drawn chariot.  He swooped down, snatching up Persephone and plunged down into the ground into the underworld.

Demeter searched everywhere for her daughter. Crops began to die, the land became barren and sorrow began to creep over the earth.  Demeter soon learned that Hades had kidnapped with her with intentions of Persephone being his wife.  She also had learned that her other brother Zeus and approved of the kidnapping.

Zeus now worried about crops and people going hungry decided to rectify the situation.  Zeus sent Hermes, a messenger to Hades to work out a deal.   Persephone after some time had came to love the cold-blooded Hades even though she missed her mother dearly.  She willingly ate pomegranate seeds which meant she could never leave the place.  They did come to an agreement in spite the fact.  Half the year Persephone returns home too her mother and the other half stays in the underworld with her husband.  Every spring, flowers blossom for Persephone's return, and every autumn, leaves fall as Persephone willingly returns as Queen of the Underworld to her husband Hades.  So the myth goes is how we have our seasons.

Demeter's struggle is a specked base with spring and autumn colors.

Care of your hand knit garments
Please hand wash cold or lukewarm water and lay flat to dry. Even though this yarn does contain superwash merino, I do always recommend that you hand wash your knitwear. We use colorfast acid dyes for dying our yarn, and rinse until water runs clear. There may be a chance that some dye may bleed slightly in the first wash of your finished item. This does sometimes happen for speckled yarn and stubborn colors that are prone to bleed. For the first couple of washes, hand wash separately to be sure that no further bleeding.

There are no dye lots. We always try to sell from same dye lots but if not sure, we recommend blending the skeins as you work. Color saturation can differ from different dyelots.
