Before there was anything, there was Chaos.  Chaos was the empty void before all things.  Chaos was the nothingness, the primal reality before the universe came to be.  Chaos translates from Ancient Greece to gaping void and is personified as a female.  Chaos is some kind of dwelling place, the middle ground between heaven and earth.

Then Chaos went did something really unexpected..... Chaos started having children.  The first primordial was Gaia, the personification of the earth.  Next was Tartarus, the hellish “Abyss of punishment forthe wicked.  With these two out of the way, Chaos gave birth to Eros, the Greek god of love.  So, “In the Beginning, the first three elements of creation was life, death and sex.   She later gave birth to two more children, Erebus and Nyx.

The modern scientific meaning of Chaos differs from the ancient Greek concept. Ovid, a Roman thinker, thought of Chaos as not a formless void from which all things were made, but as a formless, jumbled disorganized mass. According to Ovid, Chaos was “a rude and undeveloped mass….a shapeless heap” where all the elements already existed, but in disarray.  Scientists no longer deal with the concepts of order and chaos but rather of super order, where chaotic and random refer to everything that cannot be identified.

And then there is Perfect Chaos.  This is Us.  A condition or place of complete disorder and great confusion.  We might look out of control but we function according to unseen rules or organization.  You might be surprised at our chaos, but it works, surprisingly.  Organized chaos is a theory applicable in business and life.  It allows for the best thoughts to flourish giving birth to new ideas.  A seemingly chaotic situation that results in desirable outcomes can be said to contain order despite producing unexpected outcomes bringing forth the term, organized chaos.

In researching organized chaos, we discovered this interesting list.

Organized Chaos can be summarized as follows:

1. Settle for more by considering less.
2. Focus on outcomes rather than processes.
3. There is not universal order
4. There is order in disorder.

Organized chaos will always thrive over order because it allows for individuals to define order and the desirable outcomes promoting a principle rather than a rule.

We like to say Jems was born out of Chaos….  8 years ago to be exact.  Judy and Emily met and here we are!  This is Us!

Care of your hand knit garments

Please hand wash cold or lukewarm water and lay flat to dry. Even though this yarn does contain superwash merino, I do always recommend that you hand wash your knitwear. We use colorfast acid dyes for dying our yarn, and rinse until water runs clear. There may be a chance that some dye may bleed slightly in the first wash of your finished item. This does sometimes happen for speckled yarn and stubborn colors that are prone to bleed. For the first couple of washes, hand wash separately to be sure that no further bleeding.

There are no dye lots. We always try to sell from same dye lots but if not sure, we recommend blending the skeins as you work. Color saturation can differ from different dyelots.
